A great weekend get-away near Austin but
far from the madding crowd
A guest house retreat, about 1 hour from downtown Austin, Texas and Austin Bergstrom International Airport. Located in far western Travis County above Cypress Creek near the Pedernales River, with access to Cypress Creek. We are about 25 minutes from Bee Cave (and Hill Country Galleria shopping center) and from Dripping Springs. Travel time to Wimberley is about 45 minutes; to Fredericksburg about 1 hour.
This lovely rock guest house is built on the edge of a limestone bluff overlooking Cypress Creek. (This is the Cypress Creek that originates in Round Mountain and flows into the Pedernales River near Hamilton Pool). The view from the guest house looks out over Cypress Creek and to the hills beyond. There is a steep staircase leading to the creek below, where there is a large wooden deck built atop a large limestone boulder overlooking the creek. This deck has the look and feel of a treehouse, as you are eye level with the cypress trees growing along the creek bank’s edge below. Take a book with you and experience the total tranquility from the deck, with the sound of a small waterfall directly below the deck lulling you to relax and nap. Take your binoculars, too, as you may experience encounters with golden cheek warblers, summer tanagers, indigo buntings, belted kingfishers, great blue heron, and many more.
Only one mile away is West Cave Preserve, which is open to the public for guided tours on weekends . Two miles away is one of the best swimming holes in the whole country, Hamilton Pool. And three miles away is Reimers Ranch Park, which offers world class rock climbing, miles of bike and hiking trails, and, of course, swimming, fishing, playing in the Pedernales River.
There are many wineries near by. Westcave Cellars (next door to us), McReynolds, Solaro Estate, and Bell Springs. A bit further is Texas Hills Vineyard in Johnson City, Driftwood Estate Winery near Wimberly and Spicewood Vineyards near Spicewood. And many more near Fredericksburg
